Parentline Plus provides a free 24 hour confidential helpline to parents staffed by trained volunteers. We offer information and support and the chance to talk through the issues facing parents. In our eleven local offices we run outreach sessions and parenting courses and workshops. We were formed in 1999 from the merger of three long established charities and a number of small local charities.
We want to support parents to make the most of their family by providing them with services that build their skills and confidence. We will do this by expanding our services to the St Ann's and Dales wards in Nottingham. Our parenting Fund project is targeting Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) parents, young fathers and parents of older children with behavioural difficulties.
We will deliver a series of open courses chosen in consultation with parents in the two wards. Our aim is to make parenting support an integral part of the Area Learning Partnership. Our services will be promoted through the Education Action Zone and drop-in centres in schools and community centres.
Included in the project is work in partnership with Father, Babies and Infants groups (FBI) to promote services available to fathers and to create a group programme designed around their needs. During the project, we will explore extending this programme to lone parents and young mothers.
