Parentline Plus provides a free 24 hour confidential helpline to parents staffed by trained volunteers. We offer information and support and the chance to talk through the issues facing parents. In our eleven local offices we run outreach sessions and parenting course and workshops. We were formed in 1999 from the merger of three long established charities and a number of small local charities.
We are using the Parenting Fund grant in Bristol to widen access to parenting support and skills training across the Bristol Unitary Authority area. Initially, a pilot will be run with an integrated local parent support service as part of a Full Service Extended School. We are providing: drop-in sessions through the school's Parent Information Point; courses and workshops for parents at the school; facilitated support groups for parents who have attended courses.
Specific work with hard to reach parents includes:
- developing a father-friendly service that reaches fathers through targeted outreach work and facilitated support groups
- running a rolling programme of group sessions in partnership with the Addiction Recovery Agency for parents recovering from addiction
- targeted work with parents of older children with challenging behaviour in partnership with YOT
- one to one support through drop-ins and running courses and workshops on parenting teenagers.
