Parentline Plus provides a free 24 hour confidential helpline to parents staffed by trained volunteers. We offer information and support and the chance to talk through the issues facing parents. In our eleven local offices we run outreach sessions and parenting course and workshops. We were formed in 1999 from the merger of three long established charities and a number of small local charities.
We are using the Parenting Fund to develop our innovative parent to parent services into robust service models that can be replicated in all Parentline Plus local offices across the country. By providing guidance we will make the model available for use in other family support agencies.
In addition, five Parentline Plus local offices have received Parenting Fund grants to set up innovative parenting services. We are also using our grant to set up parent and project advisory panels. A National Co-ordinator is being appointed to work directly with local offices in developing new services and identifying those that can be rolled out nationally.
The service models have all been chosen because of their success in meeting parents' needs and tackling challenging issues that can cause family friction. Examples include young parents service in Gloucestershire and North London, training diversity facilitators to work with both BME parents and deaf parents, and a project working with prisoner families and their partners and grandparents.
