NCH's purpose is to improve the quality of life of the most vulnerable children and young people. We run a variety of projects in the UK in response to local needs. These services include Adoption, Early years and family support, Education, Family placement, Health, Participation and family rights, Residential care and Youth services. We are a charity set up in 1869.
We are using the Parenting Fund grant in Greenwich to develop an early intervention service for families whose children are either at risk of underachieving at school because of non-attendance, or, at risk of being excluded from school because of behaviour resulting from what is going on at home.
Bullying, being bullied, non-attendance, disruptive behaviour in the classroom and playground or coping with stressful situations at home can all escalate into exclusion from school. We will help families to build on their strengths to develop the skills and strategies needed to overcome their difficulties. Our aim is to empower the child and family to cope once our service is withdrawn.
The project will be using an intense 'solution focused' model that provides brief therapy for the family. We will contact the family within 24 hours of the referral and make an appointment for them within seven days. The work with the child and family will last for a limited period of up to six weeks and the family will be seen in their own home.
