The NCVCCO is an umbrella body for child-care and family support organisations that are registered charities. Our aim is to maximise the contribution of the voluntary sector nationally, regionally and locally to the well-being and safeguarding of children. We are a charity set up in 1942.
We run a Parenting Education Material Travelling Exhibition containing over 600 items on parenting and raising children. The items include written, electronic, visual, video and audio materials on a wide range of subjects. Some of these subjects are:
- the impact of a new baby on the family
- the first years
- school age children
- teenage years
- modern families
- fathers & fatherhood
- disabilities
- physical and mental health
- parenting courses
- black and minority ethnic families.
Through this project we expect a large number of people and organisations to sample these materials and get hold of the summaries.
Using the Parenting Fund we will be running 1-day events in each of the nine English regions. Each region will provide a workshop and taster session as well as an open access event for practitioners, volunteers and parents to view the exhibition. In addition we will publish summaries of the materials as a resource for professionals and parents.
Other work supported by the Parenting Fund on this project includes:
- work in partnership with NCVCCO members and national parenting organisations to deliver workshops, seminars, taster sessions and open days on parenting education
- themed events targeted on specific service providers. These will highlight materials available for working with groups currently less well served. eg. black and minority ethnic families, children with special needs, parents with disabilities and fathers.
