Nacro is the leading national crime reduction charity working with disadvantaged communities and people to address the issues that can lead to crime and anti social behaviour. We were set up in 1966.

Our Father Figures Project works with fathers of young people at risk of anti-social behaviour, social exclusion and crime. It has operated successfully in Sheffield for a number of years. The Parenting Fund grant enables us to use the learning and experience gained in Sheffield to roll out the Father Figures model to other parts of England.

Our aims are:

  • To develop and share a good model of father work practice.
  • To build partnerships between the voluntary and statutory sectors on father work.
  • To contribute to the development of sustainable and effective fathers work on a national level.

The project includes:

  • group work
  • creative arts activities
  • one to one support, including advice and information
  • social events
  • encouraging referrals to the project from interested agencies.

We expect the Father Figures Project to reduce the likelihood of young people becoming socially excluded or involved in criminal or anti-social behaviour. It should also strengthen fathers' parenting skills.
