LCIL is a charity set up in 1996 to encourage the provision of services that facilitate independent living for people with a disability.
Our Parenting Fund project combines the experience and knowledge of local disabled people, the ethos of inclusive education and creates a project that will support the needs of disabled parents.
Based on current work in partnership with Parents for Inclusion, we are developing our service to meet the needs of disabled parents who may or may not have disabled children. The project will develop and introduce training and support materials that can be cascaded for use in other areas. We want to ensure that all parents can access the training and that good practice is established.
Our target group is disabled parents with school age children. A project steering group will support the development of effective and accessible information on issues reflecting the needs of disabled parents.
We want to engage with Leicester's diverse community through this project and will ensure that the materials are available in a variety of media and in different community languages.
