Fathers Direct helps family services, workplaces and policy makers to adapt to changes in the way families care for their children. We provide a range of resources that help organisations to work with fathers and support them in their parenting role more effectively.
We are using the Parenting Fund to build a new national infrastructure that provides training, information, advice and networking opportunities to all organisations working with parents. This will make them better able to support fathers' contribution to caring for children as specified in the Children's National Service Framework. The project will help professionals to develop new ways of working with fathers and mothers both individually and together. Setting up partnerships between Fathers Direct and other agencies working with parents and families will be key to making the project a success.
The project will work in three sectors:
- Muslim families
- African Caribbean families
- families with drug and alcohol problems.
In each sector the project will provide web-based materials for professionals, train trainers, raise awareness and raise further funds. There will be an on-line database and an email service all of which will contribute to awareness raising.
The experience of this work will enable Fathers Direct to move into other areas of need (e.g. mental health, child protection, young offenders, refugees, foster families, families with a disability, separated families etc.).
