The Family Welfare Association (FWA) was set up in 1869 as a charity to work with vulnerable families and people. We deliver a wide range of community based programmes including:
- home and project based support to parents and their children
- community based mental health services
- financial help for families in need
- educational grants advice for disadvantaged people.
We are using the Parenting Fund to provide a WellFamily service in the Paston area of Peterborough. The WellFamily worker will work alongside statutory services such as health, education, employment and the voluntary sector services to provide holistic and integrated services to children and families in the Paston community.
The service will offer advice and support for a range of concerns, which affect the physical, emotional, mental and social health and well being of children and families. These could include stress and anxiety, finance and housing, schools, isolation and bereavement, relationship difficulties, children's behaviour problems.
The service will work directly with parents to tackle difficulties at an early stage and prevent problems from spiralling out of control. The approach will be flexible, and accessible, so that families may contact the worker themselves or be introduced by another agency or professional. They could meet at a variety of venues as agreed.
As well as offering direct support the WellFamily worker can use the experience and knowledge of FWA to help families reach other services, including other parts of FWA. The service aims to help families and the community to build on their strengths, the outcome of which will be improved health, well-being, self-esteem, confidence and quality of life.
