Turning Point Women's Centre exists to inspire women and their families to change their lives and communities for the better. Our mission is to enable women, girls and their families to overcome disadvantage, inequality and poverty by becoming a leading provider of services and recognised centre of excellent.
The title and aim of the project
Feeling Good Families
The aim of the project is to enhance the health and wellbeing of families in the West of Leicester using a combination of parenting support, fun family learning activities and the promotion of community action and healthier lifestyles.
The project will recruit local parents and train them to become Family Wellbeing mentors. Once trained our peer volunteers will support the development of a range of activities such as afterschool family clubs, expressive arts (such as drumming/singing workshops) outdoor activities (such as growing vegetables and discovering nature), low cost trips and family cooking. Our mentors will reach out into the community and identify families who would benefit from support. They will support them to have a go at activities which will bring them closer together as a family, enhance their confidence and communication skills and introduce them to a healthier way of living. The project will also have embedded learning to improve parenting skills and will support families that are currently experiencing.
Information about the beneficiaries of the project
The project will work with families form the west of Leicester who are experiencing high level of deprivations, who may experience difficulties in relating to their children and need support in parenting. 30 local residents will be recruited to become peer educators who will work with and support 250 families over the duration of the project to embrace a healthier lifestyle and build better relationships with in families.
