The aims of Young People in Focus (i) is to improve the lives of young people and families by providing professionals with the knowledge, skills and resources they need to provide better services. We do this via training, publication of resources and toolkits, research and evaluation, practice development projects and influencing policy.
In this Parenting Fund round three project we will:
1. Deliver our Certificate in Supporting the Parents of Adolescents course (SPA) to practitioners based in Cornwall, Norfolk and Nottingham. This will:
offer an opportunity for the local parenting workforce to meet the National Occupational Standards within a Higher Education framework and specialize in working with parents of older children/ young people.
Improve practice in working with this client group and develop service provision
2. Undertake research into the needs of parents of young parents; develop practitioner resources from the research and disseminate learning through seminars in each of the areas. Through this aspect of the project we hope to:
- further understanding of the needs of this group and consider how to engage them in services
- disseminate lessons for practice and improve services for teenage parents with an intergenerational focus
3. Carry out an evaluation of the long term impact of the SPA course on practice. We hope to understand the impact of the course and it's strengths and weaknesses and use the findings to contribute to it's future development.
i. Trust for the Study of Adolescence changed its name to Young People in Focus in June 2009.
