BIRMINGHAM RUNAWAYS FAMILY SUPPORT
This is a partnership project between The Children's Society (lead/accountable body) and Spurgeons. The project will support parents to help young runaways re-integrate back into their family homes.
There will be an initial assessment of needs and issues for parents/families in their homes. The project will use recognised models of intervention (Triple P and Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities) through group sessions, parenting skills courses and one to one skills development sessions enabling parents to take back the role of 'adult' in the relationship. The group sessions will also enable parents to gain mutual support and understand that they are not alone. Parents will then be supported to implement their learning through supported sessions with both parents and their child in the home. Six support/training delivery cycles will be implemented over the course of the Parenting Fund grant.
The project will also foster better intergenerational understanding through group and individual sessions (bringing together adults and children) and linking in with The Children's Societies current befriending scheme in Birmingham for young runaways. This will add value to the work by providing ongoing and holistic support for either or both the parent and child to promote continued understanding and learning.
