Project funding
£78,683
Funding round
This funding will enable us to have a dedicated parent support worker within the SCARPA project
Aims of the project:
- To support parents and improve family situations so young people no longer feel the need to go missing and place themselves at risk on the streets
- To deliver this service as part of an integrated approach within a targeted youth support project working directly with young people
Anticipated outcomes:
- Parents have a greater understanding of how to manage, reduce and avoid family conflict
- Young people are able to operate within an improved family environment that allows them to gain benefits from their own work with SCARPA, leading to a cessation of their missing behaviours with the consequent risks involved
Access to the Service:
- SCARPA works with a 'top 20' group of young people targeted as a result of their missing behaviours selected after consultation with the police and social care
- Referrals from voluntary, private or statutory agencies
- Young people and parents can also self refer
Ethos:
- Young people and parents each have their own SCARPA workers removing the risk of alienating young people who might initially feel their worker is 'taking someone else's side'.
Practice:
The SCARPA parent support worker offers support but with a focus on the areas of :
- identifying and managing risks
- managing behaviour
- setting targets
- action planning
- family relationships
- family communication
- identifying support networks
This work will be carried out with parents at places and times, and at a pace of their choosing.
