The Parent Support Project has been set up to support mothers/carers who are starting a new life with their children after leaving an abusive relationship.

From previous work we have provided, we identified that some mothers/carers needed a more structured and consistent provision of parenting support.

There will be three main areas of support provided, these will include :

  • Structured one to one support on parenting
  • Follow up counselling work for those in need of additional support
  • Closed 10 week group sessions, followed by further one to one support as required.

The aim would be to address urgent and individual needs to parenting, enabling women/carers to build a positive relationship with their child/children and gain confidence and skills in managing that relationship.

The counselling sessions will be offered to women who have additional needs relating to trauma, abuse and parenting.

Referrals will be a combination of mothers who are already receiving practical and emotional support from our Outreach services, self- referrals and those from different city agencies.
