Relate Nottinghamshire is a member of the Relate Federation. Key objectives are:
To provide counselling, advice, education, guidance and relief to adults and/or children in relation to any aspect of contemporary life or work which:
may prejudice their physical or mental well being; or
influence, either directly or indirectly, their present or future family or couple relationship
To advance citizenship and community development;
to relieve those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage.
The Relate2you Parenting Support Service was originally piloted with Stage 2 funding from the Parenting Fund, and we will be now be working in an increased number of disadvantaged areas. Each area has a different 'character', and the parents seen come from very diverse ethnic and social groups. We provide a range of services to support parents, as follows:
1. Relationship counselling services for parents (individuals and couples) who;
1.1 have relationship problems and are seeking to find ways of avoiding relationship breakdown, or manage the impact of their problems on children.
1.2 are struggling to cope after relationship breakdown, or to manage the impact on children.
1.3 face other significant challenges such as disability, ill health, mental health problems, family conflict, problems associated with ethnicity, blended families, serial relationships etc.
2. Family counselling services – available in any of the above circumstances.
3. Group sessions and relationship education courses for parents (e.g. 'Looking at Anger' course).
Services are delivered in children's centres, schools and at the Youth Offending Team. We work closely with staff of other agencies offering support to families and young people.
