People in Action works with and for people with learning difficulties and disabilities (LDD), to enable them to make informed decisions about their lives, take a full and active part in society and maximize their potential; independence and quality of life. It acts as a best practice advocate for people with LDD, their families and carers, upholding values of social equality, opportunity and choice for all and the celebration of cultural diversity.
The title and aim of the project ( where appropriate the name of the evidence based tools you will be using)
Families in Action Project will work with parents with learning difficulties and/or disabilities (LDD) and parents of children who have LDD to help them provide a supportive, effective and stable family environment. The work will support the five outcomes of Every Child Matters and engage over 60 families some from South Asian and African communities.
Partnership with Shantona supports minority ethnic families and the Parent Advice Worker from Chapeltown Citizens Advice Bureau, will provide para-legal services.
The project will support families who have been identified as at risk by social care services and those from disadvantaged and socially excluded groups. It will target fathers by sustaining and developing the work done in round 2 with Dads Included. The project will assist parents to access direct payments and individual budgets, helping parents build support networks and peer relationships, and delivering training in positive parenting (through PEAL), ESOL/functional skills.
