Ormiston's aim is to support children, young peopole and families that are disadvantaged and marginalised by their life experiences and circumstances. It works through provision of direct service provision, within 4 strategic themes: children & young people affected by the imprisonment of a family member, gypsy & traveller communities, emotional well-being of children and young people with early indications of mental health issues, and vulnerable families within the community.
The project for which we are receving support from The Parenting Fund is the 'You & Your Child' programme. This is an , OCN acredited course, targeted at prisoners who want to develop their parenting skills in order to develop and maintain their parenting role and relationship with their children whilst in prison. Family liaison work is an integral part of the project's development. Each course will be delivered once a month to about 5 prisoners per group- 12 modules per year. Although there is some written work, the course is interactive and encourages respectful discussion within a small group setting.
