The National Autistic Society (NAS) is the UK's leading charity for people affected by autism. We were founded in 1962, by a group of parents who were passionate about ensuring a better future for their children. Today we have over 18,000 members, 80 branches and provide a wide range of advice, information, support and specialist services to over 100,000 people each year. A local charity with a national presence, we campaign and lobby for lasting positive change for people affected by autism.
The aim of our project is to provide Autism Support to families in need across Croydon. With the grant provided, we will continue to employ one Family Support Worker and recruit one Behaviour Support Worker who will work with parents and extended family members to promote stronger family relationships. The remit of the Family Support Worker includes delivering NAS parenting programmes, running our successful Dad's Club, establishing a lone parent monthly support group and producing a sign posting CD-ROM to distribute to families affected by autism in Croydon. The Behaviour Support Worker will support families during difficult daily routines, put behaviour strategies in place and hold bi-weekly drop in sessions where parents and other family members will be able to receive advice and support. An interpretation service will also be available to encourage BME families to attend.
