We provide integrated preventative support to children attending Bowthorpe's first and middle schools and to their families. The project, founded in 2000, is a partnership between Family Matters, YMCA, HomeStart and Nacro.
Using the Parenting Fund grant, we will open a Parent Resource Centre in our current building. The aim is to increase parents' knowledge of and confidence in their parenting role. Its work will be directed mainly at families with children between the ages of five and thirteen. The Centre will be staffed by two part time workers.
The Centre will provide information on parenting and family life to local families, and professionals working with families in Norfolk using a well-maintained library of resources on parenting information. A variety of courses, workshops, surgeries and events aimed at either parents/carers or professionals, together with networking events for professionals will be run from the centre. A website will make the information held by the Centre widely accessible and provide a discussion forum for professionals.
