Malachi Community Trust is an early intervention and prevention agency established in1991 to support children and young people affected by complex and adverse family circumstances. The organisation has gained a strong reputation citywide for effective engagement and support for some of Birmingham's most challenging families.
Using a sound psychological base and a range of proven therapeutic interventions, staff have been able to help turn round many deep and intractable personal and family situations including relationship breakdown drug and alcohol misuse, and domestic abuse among many others.
The project will be based in the South of Birmingham, and will be delivered in schools and Childrens Centres in the Shenley and Frankley Extended Clusters. Through storytelling, discussion, drama, musical productions and one to one therapy with children and their carers, this project will support distressed children and adults who are experiencing trauma as result of family breakdown, domestic violence and other issues.
There is a history of successful working with a number of schools in the Partnership including Trescott Primary, Princethorpe Juniors, Green Meadow Primary, Ley Hill J&I and Bellfield Children Centre. From this sound and proven base the project will extend to include many new families for whom staff within the schools have identified as being in need of a support service for which there is no local provision.
330 children will benefit from one of Malachi's issue based, family themed projects, and further 170 children and their carers will receive the more intensive therapy which will lead to measurable outcomes in the lives of their children. These outcomes will be evidenced in improved behaviour, and where relevant, improved attendance and attainment.
