GDD believe in an environment that is rich in biodiversity and accessible to all, an environment that supports healthy, cohesive communities, who contribute towards vibrant local economies; with equal opportunities for all.
The Forest Skills project in Derby City aims to:
"Promote stronger family relationships and improved parental confidence and skills through intergenerational activity"
We will support families in learning how to improve their interaction and relationships, through positive outdoor activities. A programme of practical activities centred on forest/nature skills will result in:
- Improved family learning and shared outcomes
- Development of both parent and child's practical skills
- Development and improvement of personal and social skills such as problem solving, negotiation and communication skills
- Improvement of intergenerational relationships and increased parental confidence
- Improvement of family relationships through greater understanding of each other
- Enablement of parents to gain new perspectives on their children – helping them identify their child's learning styles, and giving them the confidence to work and learn effectively alongside them.
Beneficiaries to the project will include parents and carers, as well as children and young people from deprived wards in Derby City. We will involve 480 parents, carers and children over the course of the programme.
