Project Summary for 'Parents Included'
(formerly Gt Yarmouth Parenting Strategy)
1) The Coordination side of the Parenting Strategy has passed to the local Excellence Cluster who will now facilitate the Parenting Forums and maintain the Great Parents Web-Site, as created during Phases 1 and 2 of the project. The Gt Yarmouth Community Trust will now focus on supporting Workforce Development for the Parenting Sector.
2) We will continue to provide our 2 day multi-agency Group Facilitation course, which has now been written as a package that includes nearly 40 newly designed hand-outs for participants, hence creating a very useful reference portfolio for practitioners.
3) This Facilitation Training Package will shortly be available for sale to other organisations outside of Gt Yarmouth and in Phase 3 we intend to train more trainers who would be in a position to deliver it's specific content. We will also be hoping to have the course accredited before the end of the project.
4) We are looking to continue development of our 'Access' course for parents who are not yet ready to attend Webster Stratton or Strengthening Families style programmes. The successful pilot of a Portuguese version of this course, will be expanded and adapted to include other groups that face barriers to accessing services, such as other BME groups, those experiencing Domestic Violence, those with Learning difficulties or Basic Skills needs etc.
5) We will also train practitioners in these specialist areas, provide them with the course content, and support them through the delivery of their first programme. Following our application to become a City and Guilds Assessment Centre, the C&G 'Work with Parents' level 3 course should be available for anyone who needs a parenting qualification first. It is also hoped that we would eventually be able to provide the PTLLS course for those new to 'teaching' adults.
6) In Phase 2, we were working on developing a practical 4 week programme for roll-out in Women's Refuges. An initial pilot in the community was very successful but did not transfer well into the Refuge setting. We will be working at how to improve that service and be training Refuge staff to run their own Parenting Programmes in house.
7) The Development Manager will continue to sit on County and local level groups to help promote workforce development as part of the County Parenting Support Strategy and Children and Young People's plan for Norfolk
