Title: Together Women Parenting Project
Aim: TWP key workers will provide holistic support to mothers and their children residing in the Leeds area in partnership with the West Yorkshire Police and other voluntary sector organisations. This project will be based on a pilot scheme that is currently being run in the North East Area of Leeds. The success of this project has been most notably shown by the fall in police call outs to families receiving TWP support, and also the decrease in offences and vivid reports recorded for these families.
Our main focus will be to help mothers tackle personal issues and to develop skills to address problems faced by their children. Personal issues include: domestic violence, social isolation, offending behaviour, lack of self confidence and life skills, inappropriate housing, substance misuse and physical and mental health problems, unmanageable debt and deprivation. Child issues include: truancy, bullying, anti social behaviour, offending, gang culture, substance misuse, and health problems. Support will be a combination of outreach support and support delivered from the Leeds TWP centre, access to appropriate courses, groups and activities, and support for mothers to attend meetings and liaise with Social Services, Schools, Local Authorities, and during court cases. Specific support for young people will be delivered by partner agencies that specialise in working with this client group.
