The Parenting Shop – for families in conflict in Redcar & Cleveland
Families Talking aims to improve the lives of adults and children affected by separation and divorce, by reducing the conflict and stress experienced as a result of relationship breakdown, particularly following separation or divorce.
The Parenting Shop pilots a range of integrated services supporting the parenting needs of these families which adds value to, and extends, our existing provision. Targeting the needs of separated families, re-formed families, grandparents acting as parents and teenage parents, we will develop and deliver training for frontline professionals (target 200); we will work with 150 parents and children in a one to one situation, or as a couple, helping them deal with conflict in their family and restore good parenting relationships; we will also develop and deliver short courses or workshops for 100 parents in the community dealing with specific issues related to conflict and parenting. Working with Middlesbrough Football Club in the Community we will develop and deliver Contact Clubs – an informal, activity based setting for contact to take place that helps address the needs of those parents who have no suitable accommodation in which to enjoy quality time with their children after separation.
The project will be evaluated by Teesside University.
