Embrace UK Community Support Centre

1. Background:-

The "Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities (SFSC)" Parent Education Programme is a community based programme specifically designed to promote some of the protective factors associated with 'good parenting' such as developing close and warm relationships between parents and children, methods of discipline, fostering self-esteem of children and developing strategies to deal with risky situations.

At the same time SFSC deals with factors in parenting that are associated with increased risk such as inconsistent parenting, harsh discipline, limited supervision and isolation. Importantly, the SFSC approach emphasises that parenting is impacted by the local environment (for example the availability of good schools) and that parents should play an active role in shaping this environment by engaging with community resources.

The SFSC parent programme is based on a strengths based 'facilitative model' which aims to raise the consciousness of parents through a range of methods including empowerment of parents through information and decreasing isolation by helping parents to connect to community resources.

2. The aim of Embrace UK Community Support Centre:-

The aim of Embrace UK is to provide information, advice and guidance to migrants, refugees and asylum seekers (particularly but not exclusively of Ethiopian origin) in education and training, welfare benefits, immigration, housing, money and debt, business start-up and employment, health related such as HIV/AIDS and mental health and conduct research as necessary.
