We are, Berkshire East and South Bucks Women's Aid. We have been providing emergency, temporary accommodation and emotional and practical support for women and their children fleeing domestic violence since 1976.

Thanks to a generous grant from the Parenting Fund we are now able to employ a full-time Parenting Support Coordinator who will be based within our new Children's Centre. The worker will work with mothers and children who have been the victims of domestic violence.

The aim of the project is to empower the mothers and their children to develop stronger bonds which will result in a happier, more secure family unit, decreasing the risk of the children within the family falling into crime, repeating patterns of abusive behaviours and/or being taken into the care system. The project is important as many of the children will have seen their family unit shrink or change as a result of the abuse so it is important they feel confident with the new situation and feel secure that the current unit will remain constant and intact.

Over the life of the two year project it is estimated that: 170 mothers who have been victim of domestic violence and 300 of their dependent children will benefit from the work.
