Aims of Organisation:
Diversity Hub exists to assist people of all backgrounds to be able to work together for a just and fair society where everyone is welcomed and valued.
Key activities include training in conflict resolution skills, how to build good relationships and alliances, prejudice reduction, anger management, listening, communication skills, leadership skills, community cohesion & welcoming diversity. We take a multi-oppression approach working on all the strands of equalities simultaneously.
Our training is high-energy and enjoyable, is participatory and experiential, and imparts practical skills. We prioritise activities with people who are disadvantaged or who face discrimination; and specialise in work with young people (e.g. 'Friends Against Bullying' (FAB) groups, work with people with NEET status, young offenders) intergenerational work, and building community facilitator teams.
Our key outcomes are to use the experiences of participants to skill them up to strengthen their relationships, build supportive alliances and take-up other opportunities.
Title of Project:
Fun, Laughter, Talking (FLT)
Aim of Project:
Skilled project workers, assisted by volunteer mentors, will deliver a series of high-energy, well-evaluated, fun and practical workshop sessions for parents/guardians/carers & their children held weekly at the end of the school day.
Interactive activities such as storytelling and the use of puppets are designed to enable parents & children to identify what their own blocks or barriers to more involvement in learning might be; help them to recognise and develop pride in what they already do well, to build & practise self-esteem, self-confidence & communication skills, and enable them to share ideas and support each other in expressing themselves & getting the most out of learning, school opportunities and other locality-based services.
Structured enjoyable activities are designed to help parents to interact positively with their children and with each other & to build supportive relationships.
Beneficiaries:
Families who are marginalised and/or disengaged or at risk of disengagement from education & learning opportunities; particularly with children in the transition 'Hot Spot' (Ofsted Ref 070255) from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3 (ages 8/9 – 12/13) focussing on those areas with the highest rates of deprivation in the 22 Lower Super Output Areas which fall into the bottom 5% in England.
