DISC's vision is of 'people realising their potential'. Our mission is to:-
- promote social inclusion
- maximise opportunities for individuals to realise their potential within their communities
- lead in the provision of innovative services, which reduce exclusion
- work in partnership with others in developing 'joined up' solutions
Parents 4 Families (P4F) is an innovative new service, based in Redcar to engage the most disengaged and disadvantaged 'families' for whom learning through joint family activity and developing a thirst for knowledge and ambition is or has not been an option. We promote inclusion and equality by enabling the take up of services by disadvantaged, vulnerable and less well served families through engagement in joint learning and diverse community based activities for parents and children.
Our aim is to empower families through learning and development of skills in a safe, non-threatening setting that is fun and interactive. Additionally, we work to strengthen family relationships where: parents misuse substances/alcohol; parental behaviours compromise family wellbeing; parents have significant mental health problems or live with high degrees of conflict and distress. We promote inclusion and equality by enabling the take up of existing services by disadvantaged, vulnerable, 'hard to reach' and less well served communities.
P4F will work with 70 families over the pilot contract period and beneficiaries will come from the target populations: Offending/ at risk; Relationship breakdown; Parents misusing drugs/alcohol; Teenage parents; Young fathers; Young people (NEET); BME Families; Children with learning disabilities. Outcomes in brief include: 70 families will feedback increased confidence in parenting their children, improved family relationships and clear understanding of roles; 70 parents will work towards and achieve the 5 outcomes of Every Child Matters; 25 fathers will report a more active role in parenting; 70 families will access community services, learning courses and support agencies; 50 parents will go on to access learning courses and gain further qualifications and or complete the 'Parents with Prospects' qualification; 70 families will report increased learning; 25 children will attend 'interactive game format' courses.
