AFSS Positive Parenting aims to improve parents' ability to support their children to realise the key ECM outcomes for children- health, safety, enjoyment, making positive contribution and economic well-being. Four key objectives will be delivered across 6 key Wards where we have found greatest need.

1. Family Mediation: We will further develop the family mediation services called 'contact point' for families where parents are in conflict or separated, supporting them to work together for the benefit of their children through one to one support and group sessions – 40 parents per month.

2. Intergenerational and Information events: We will continue to run quarterly events, bringing together 70 parents and their children to discuss issues of concern to both parents and their children in an open forum facilitated by peers and professionals.

3. Just for Fathers: We will further develop this fathers' only group to meet local needs by promoting fathers' participation in the lives of their children using the outreach approach, one to one support, peer mentoring and support groups targeting 20 participants monthly.

4. Promote Access to services for 'hard to reach and engage with Black African parents through outreach work, one to one, peer support within the community to provide information, support and service access reaching to 20 parents a month

5. Further activities:

  • Telephone helpline to offer support, advice and information to at least 30 callers per a week.
  • Through Peer mentoring programme we shall train and deploy 50 parents as peer mentors to support other parents every 2 years.
