Advocacy in Greenwich
Advocacy in Greenwich wants to make sure that the people we work with are empowered to fully participate in the wider community and we work together to challenge assumptions and change minds. We offer a range of advocacy services to people with learning disabilities and young people with disabilities in the London borough of Greenwich. This advocacy support is provided by trained volunteers and paid staff who make sure that people listen to the views and wishes of the individuals they support, and respect their rights and that people have control over their own futures.
Parents Project
The project will be supporting the implementation of an agreed multi agency protocol and good practice guidance for working with parents with a learning disability.
The project will aim to ensure that there is better joined up working between adult, health and children's services in relation to support and assessments and more integrated services to support parents with a learning disability and their children. We will raise awareness among professionals about the barriers faced by parents with a learning disability and how to reduce them for parents who are trying to access support and services. As a result we aim to improve outcomes for families where one or both parents has a learning disability locally and nationally.
We will achieve this by developing an accessible version of the protocol, continuing to provide one to one advocacy support and group support to parents. The Advocacy Development Worker will raise awareness of the issues for parents and the protocols through attending team meetings with adult social care, health and children services, and through facilitating champions meeting and developing and delivering training with parents to staff in these services.
We will share our learning through current networks and any that we establish as a result of this project.
