Action for Children aims to:

  • Make a positive difference in the lives of children and young people and ensure all our decisions and actions are governed by this imperative
  • Action for Children has a commitment to keeping the child at the heart of all service activity and fully involved in the development, delivery and evaluation of services
  • Maximise our opportunities to increase support to the most vulnerable children and young people
  • Action for Children has the ability to consult effectively and meaningfully with children, young people and their families and support them to participate in imaginative ways
  • hContinually improve Action for Children's efficiency, effectiveness and long term security

Parenting Matters-Cornwall

Action for Children will provide a bespoke project: Parenting Matters-Cornwall which will support parents of children and teenagers aged 7-19 who are experiencing difficulties in managing their children's behaviour. This may be due to substance misuse, mental illness or domestic violence.

The project will deliver 22 evidence based programmes and support 150 families across Cornwall; using a flexible approach delivering some aspects of each programme on a one to one basis to encourage hard to reach families to attend a group.

The project aims to reduce the numbers of children and young people going into care, becoming subject to formal protection plans, or who are considered to be 'at risk'. We also aim to increase parent's confidence by developing their parenting skills.

All work will follow evidence based programmes including: Triple P for Teenagers, Living with Parents, Time out for Teenagers and Escape/Parallel Lines.
