Action Deafness Parenting Programme
Action Deafness will deploy two project officers who will design and implement a pilot parenting programme, complemented with full communication support (aural method, British Sign Language, Sign Supported English, cued speech) and delivered as a component of the Leicester City Council's Parenting Strategy.
The project will:
- Deliver a programme of person-centred parenting skills
- Deliver parenting support signposting to relevant agencies where appropriate.
- Provide impartial advice and information on specific D/deaf parenting issues
- Develop a City wide D/deaf parenting network, identifying 30 peer-to-peer 'Befrienders'.
- Develop and implement an assessment tool to test impacts at a family's entry, mid-point and exit from the programme, noting enhanced parenting skills, inclusion and access to services.
Project Beneficiaries
Aimed at both deaf parents of hearing children and hearing parents of deaf children, the project will promote inclusion and equality, enabling this disadvantaged constituency to access existing and bespoke services.
