Our Expectant Fathers Project is supporting expectant and new fathers by helping them to develop their parenting skills and active involvement in fatherhood. To achieve this we are:

1. Running Expectant Fathers courses: Aim to help fathers: feel more supported in their role; have a clearer idea of their role and the importance of their active involvement in the care of their child; feel more skilled and confident in their role; understand what will happen up to, during and after the birth of their child. An Expectant Fathers course comprises of four sessions (each session is skills and discussion based), plus a follow up session when all fathers' babies are at least 6 weeks old.

2. Reviewing locally provided parent craft courses and look at ways of making them more father-friendly (without losing the current focus on mothers).

3. Running local campaigns to raise the awareness and value of fathers' involvement with their children in the early months of their lives.

4. Developing materials (DVD, written and web based) that would help inform and prepare expectant fathers.

5. Supporting and informing professionals (midwives and health visitors) to engage and involve fathers in the months before and after birth.
