Funding round
The continuation funding from the Parenting Fund will allow Turning Point to include a family mediation service in the service we provide to parents affected by substance use.
Aims:
- Prevent young people who are using substances from developing problematic substance use through improved family relationships
- Reduce the risk of young people affected by parental substance use from developing problematic substance use
We will:
- Work with two groups of parents. Both individually and in couples. Who are substance users themselves, and parents whose children are using substances. Both groups will benefit from a tailored program of one to one and/or group support.
- Facilitate therapeutic family sessions based on the strengthening families parenting model.
- Work with parents of users focusing on short term basic drugs awareness sessions to equip them with the skills, knowledge and confidence to deal successfully with drug related issues in their family.
- Provide solution focussed family mediation to families who are affected by substance misuse including both groups of parents and those referred by our parenting worker at the Youth Offending service.
- Develop a resource pack for professionals to work with parents affected by substance use and for professionals supporting adult drug users.
- Develop and disseminate best practice guidelines for service delivery through a project evaluation report.
Over two years we will provide one to one support for 200 parents, crisis interventions for 150 parents, facilitate parents groups for 80 parents, provide strengthening families interventions for 60 families and deliver drugs awareness sessions to 200 parents.
