Our project is working with lone parents in Manchester in two ways:
- Direct work with lone parents in Manchester who face social exclusion and disadvantage with a particular focus on black and minority ethnic communities. We are working with 4 local partners to deliver a programme of culturally appropriate events for lone parents offering advice, support and learning opportunities. The programme will give lone parents opportunities for social interaction and access to our telephone and online advice services
- Providing training for the staff and volunteers of other organisations in Manchester to build their knowledge and skills in dealing with the multiple issues faced by lone parents. Our Manchester team will offer them information, advice and support.
Our Partnership Development Manager will build relationships with partners and work with them to develop and manage the programme. Our partners work with Chinese, Bangladeshi, African Caribbean and Somali communities. We expect to deliver 1-2 partner events per month. Where needed, we will provide interpreters and will recruit community advocates for particularly vulnerable and excluded participants. Training materials and information sheets will be translated into community languages and made culturally appropriate.
