Our project is about strengthening the parenting support infrastructure to produce better services for parents with Mental Health and /or Substance Misuse Difficulties. We are setting up a practice development project to enable us to do this. Its programme includes:
- An analysis of the effectiveness of strategic planning, commissioning and service delivery in meeting the needs of families in these groups
- Identifying good outcomes for families in these groups
- Developing a programme of work in partnership with key stakeholders to build on strengths and address gaps and to ensure the outcomes are achieved
- Evaluating our approach and disseminating outcomes.
Through the project we expect to raise awareness of the impact of mental ill health and substance misuse on parenting and increase understanding of how parents can be better supported to meet their children's needs. We would also expect to know more about the impact of parental mental ill-health and substance misuse on children. The project will make a significant contribution to the development of commissioning, service design and workforce training in this area.
