Our Autism Family & Community Officer assesses families' needs and works with them to build the practical skills that will help their child with autism achieve his or her potential. The project focuses on the difficulties faced by families in dealing with the challenging behaviour of their older children. Our goal here is to enable parents to keep the child at home and to avoid school exclusion while managing the transition to adulthood.

Following the initial assessment we work with the parents in practical ways to help them tackle any specific difficulties they are encountering in parenting their autistic child. To help us we have a mobile resource kit for use by parents.

We also work with other agencies, including education, social services, health and other providers to ensure that families receive the benefits, services and resources they need to support them in their parenting role.
