A grant from the Parenting Fund would be used to deliver 30 parenting support programmes across Southampton. The new programmes would target 600 families with children aged 8-16 who are identified as demonstrating anti-social behaviour or are deemed at risk of becoming anti social and disruptive within the local community. One project worker post within the scheme will be dedicated to working with ethnic minority communities in Southampton.
Parenting Support Programmes will provide 4 stages of intervention:
1. Home based family assessment - a project worker will meet with thefamily and assess their needs. This contact offers both assessment and brief intervetnion therapty which will result in either sign posting to other appropriate services, participation in the parenting support programme or individual support.
2. Parents will participate in the Incredible Years positive parenting course (12 weeks x 2 hours per week). The will access an age specific group (8-12s or 12-16s). 1-1 support is available throughout this period either face to face or by telephone.
3. Where assessment indicates additional services for the children are needed, direct interventions will be offered such as youth orientated activities, parent/children coaching sessions, recreational activities, access to peer group support and befriending services.
4. Parents completing the Incredible Years programme will be offered 3 months follow up support that may include: further 1-1 support, access to peer groups, mentoring, signposting to other services.
The project leader will provide training opportunties and infrastructure development capability for parenting support services in statutory and VCS sector.
