We are delivering a parenting support programme called 'Children in Focus' to 960 separated parents in East Leeds. The programme enables mothers and fathers to build cooperative relationships around the care of their children following family separation. It is a six week course of 3 hours each week delivered to resident parents and non resident parents in groups of 16.
Family Court Judges in Yorkshire and CAFCASS staff in North Yorkshire already recommend 'Children in Focus' to families in conflict. It was developed at the Centre for Separated Families after ten years of work on gender analysis and parenting support. In this project we will:
- Test its efficacy in specific cultural settings in East Leeds; with low income families, BME families and with young mothers and fathers. Delivery will be evaluated and results written up into a toolkit for new strategies to support separated families
- Provide services for separated families in the East Leeds area where none currently exist. The delivery of the programme will be supported by a comprehensive telephone and email advice and information service from the Centre for Separated.
