Our infrastructure project will implement and embed the new National Occupational Standards 'Work with Parents' developed by the Parenting Education and Support Forum and NIACE and recently approved by Lifelong Learning UK into a range of our parenting programmes already being delivered within our projects. The outcome will be improvement in the overall quality and consistency of work with parents in the identified geographical areas. We will:
1. Introduce the standards to managers, staff, volunteers and parents in Spurgeon's projects and those of other agencies or groups with whom we work collaboratively primarily in Birmingham, Stoke and Bristol. Target 8 projects.
2. Use the standards as a measure to identify shortfalls or areas for change or improvement of practice, policy and procedures, supervision and appraisal, learning arrangements, feedback, evaluation and review.
3. Develop action plans as necessary to address the shortfalls or changes required.
4. Develop and deliver a learning programme to front line staff and volunteers to enable them to meet the standards. target 30 learners.
5. Commission an independent body to produce an evaluative report of the project including an evaluation of the difference made to practice and to users parents (parents) experience; the report would be available for wider dissemination, both within Spurgeon's and the sector.
6. Identify/create opportunities for assessment for relevant qualifications (NVQs or VRQs) in work with parents available to participating staff and volunteers. This could include working with an Awarding Body to becoming an approved Assessment Centre.
