The National Childbirth Trust (NCT) and Sowing Seeds have been awarded a Parenting Fund grant to support families in Manchester. The NCT is a large national organisation that wants all parents to have an experience of pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood that enriches their lives and gives them confidence in being a parent. Sowing Seeds is a small grass roots community organisation, set up and run by black dads for black dads.
This innovative Parenting Fund project involves trialling a partnership between these two very different organisations, in order to improve support for parents in Manchester and the North West more generally.
Part time 'Development Workers' from the NCT and Sowing Seeds will raise awareness about the information and support available to parents and organisations working with parents. There will be a special emphasise on supporting organisations that want o do more to work with diverse groups of parents, such as black fathers and teenagers.
Sowing Seeds and NCT will provide the following outputs from the project:
- 10 workshops per annum run for black men and fathers
- 1 annual networking event with workshops for professionals
- 8 newsletters (one each quarter)
- 1 website database
- At least 1 new promotional material for parents. (eg leaflet for fathers)
