We are running Tamil Family Centre to support the needs of the Tamil families in Croydon. It is managed by a full time bilingual family support officer.
The aims are to:
- Improve the levels of self confidence/self esteem of Tamil parents
- To provide opportunities to Tamil couples to improve their parenting styles through solution focused programmes in Tamil
- To provide family learning activities to support active and responsible fatherhood. e.g. ESOL classes
- To improve positive parenting skills
- To provide information and materials on parenting in Tamil and English e.g. Respect agenda by volunteers
- To enable parents to understand and know Child UK laws
- To work towards achieving the National Occupational Standards for working with parenting.
The project will:
- Offer a series of workshops and resources in Tamil on parenting (Listening skills, negotiation skills, stress management, anger management, how to deal with conflicts)
- Work in partnership to improve home/school links for parents and to enable them to support their children's education
- Provide confidential/non-judgemental outreach support services to parents.
