The Hackney Initiative to Deliver Action with Dads (HI DAD) is a partnership with: Young Fathers in Hackney, the Family Rights Groups, the Policy Studies Institute, CityZEN and ContinYou. We are supporting young fathers to become active and knowledgeable parents confident in helping their children grow up happy, healthy and secure. We will also develop a tool kit to share best practice on how to work with young dads.
We will reach young dads through peer led detached and outreach work and marketing, as well as recruiting and training one young father as a 'mid-husband', who is to be supported by health care professionals in identifying and working with young prospective fathers.
We anticipate an individual client will engage with HI DAD on average ten times. Options for involvement include:
- A unique self awareness and development tool using photography to explore identity, set goals, and create a self development journal
- One to one support with the development manager who will make referrals where necessary
- Peer mentoring support with trained peer mentors and / or the 'mid-husband'
- Legal rights information from a Family Rights Group Fathers Advice Worker
- Training in peer mentoring, presentation, web design, evaluation, football coaching, sexual health peer education, etc
- Monthly group sessions where young fathers can share experiences and develop their own programme of activities.
