We are delivering the Strengthening, Strengthening Families Course in six of some of the most deprived areas of Bristol - Easton, Lawrence Hill, St Pauls, Lawrence Weston, Southmead and Filwood. This will provide greater access to culturally sensitive parenting education and support to isolated/vulnerable families from diverse backgrounds and cultures across Bristol. The project will also have an impact on local infrastructure by adding to the number of skilled grassroots facilitators delivering SFSC parenting courses in deprived areas.
We will be delivering 20 thirteen week parenting courses to a minimum of 300 parents including lone parents with teenagers, young mothers, refugees, asylum seekers, BME groups, fathers, grandparents, parents recovering from drug and alcohol addiction, and parents living in deprived areas across Bristol. Twenty new course facilitators will be trained, joining the10 facilitators already trained, to form a Practitioners Forum. It will support peer group learning and provide training in parenting education e.g. teenage parenting, support for fathers, cultural perspectives, dealing with separation, violence/drugs in the community, sex education. SPAN and Full Circle will bring SFSC parenting course into a partnership that includes the SPAN Study Centre, the City of Bristol College, Children's Centers, and other agencies delivering Every Child Matters.
