Continyou is a community learning charity that provides a range of programmes encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to take an interest in learning. We were established in 2003 from a merger of the Community Education Development Centre and Education Extra.
We are using the Parenting Fund to offer a variety of parenting packages to extended schools, clusters of schools and the agencies that are working with them. Support will be given to schools and agencies that:
- have, or plan to have, a parental support policy
- are able to put the training into practice in the near future
- will complete and return monitoring and evaluation of the work
- will provide venue and refreshments for training days and meetings
- will finance registration with OCN for accreditation
- are likely to expand parental support after the pilot period.
For this project we will provide across England:
- Share Plus packages. This is a package of training and material for facilitators working with groups of parents. Parents can receive accreditation for taking part.
- Parents Coping with Kids. This comes with Share Plus and is a set of illustrations used by facilitators to develop discussion with non-readers.
- Active Dads packages. This is a package of training and materials for mentors, dads and children for encouraging fathers to take on activities with their children. Fathers can receive accreditation for taking part.
- Top Dads seminars and tool kits. This is aimed at African Caribbean Fathers and encourages them to share sports activities with their children.
- Men Friendly Organisations. This is an accredited audit of organisations that looks at how they engage with fathers as parents. The training is over 4 days and delivered to up to 30 participants.
- Approved trainer training for Share Plus and Active Dads will be offered towards the end of the project. Training can then be delivered once the project is completed simply by purchasing materials from ContinYou.
