Parents discovering their child has a disability in NE Lincolnshire will have access to emotional support through the SCOPE services. The Parenting Fund grant will allow SCOPE:
- To support more parents at the time of diagnosis
- recruit and train 24 additional parent volunteers who will support up to 96 parents
- provide support to local parents and evaluate the service in line with the Network's Good Practice guidelines
- provide additional training opportunities (personal development) to parent volunteers increasing their skills and confidence to support local parents and their families
- to strengthen networks supporting parents of disabled children
- To tackle the isolation faced by local parents of disabled children
- build on experience of the current Face to Face scheme in meeting the needs of those facing the greatest risks of exclusion
- identify new ways of engaging and supporting local parents, in particular fathers and lone parents e.g. Dads Breakfast Club
- promote the service and build partnerships with local service providers to address issues e.g. rural/transport problems, single parent families
- organise 'Family Event's and professional 'Awareness Days' to share learning, information and good practice
Befrienders/service users are reached through: word of mouth; distribution of flyers/information via appropriate settings; referrals from local service providers; Face to Face website and sign posting from partners.
