Funding round
We are using the Round 2 grant to develop further the Refugee Parent Project that was funded in Round 1. Since March 2005 we have supported 47 house holds (59 individual parents and 96 children in total) and the details of that work can be seen above in the section on Round 1.
During Round 2 we will:
- Continue with direct parent support work: providing information, advocacy and support benefiting at least 48 refugee parent households yearly (approximately 70 parents and 100 children).
- Develop group work with parents: building knowledge, parenting skills, and confidence, strengthening peer support networks. We will deliver at least 1-2 sessions quarterly
- Increase project participation in external networks: promoting social inclusion and infrastructure development through strengthening partnership work with other services and projects, raising awareness of refugee parent needs and profiles, sharing learning and complimenting other provision.
Project delivery will be through our current team of 2 part-time Support Workers.
Emphasis is placed on:
- Parent friendly, flexible and accessible support offered through home visits, appointments, outreach and drop in.
- Free provision of skilled interpreters.
- Empowerment, early intervention, jointly assessed needs and support planning.
- Developing links and networks with external agencies to share learning and develop partnerships to meet the expressed needs of refugee parents and their families.
