Rainer is a provider of, and gateway to, a comprehensive range of tailored services for under-supported young people. We work to enable them to live emotionally and physically secure and fulfilled lives. The Slough Youth Support Service will deliver a model of intervention that works with their parents and their children to facilitate communication, develop effective ways of monitoring and supervision, reduce conflict and strengthen relationships. This will be achieved by working in partnership with parents so they can develop the knowledge, skills and support systems for effective parenting. The service will target parents of teenagers who are deemed to be at risk of social exclusion and will assist parents at a time of crisis as well as offering long-term intervention. Our goal is to provide a comprehensive service to a parent that is driven by their identified needs by:
- Employing a worker to facilitate a programme of parental support
- Developing links with local agencies and specialist organisations
- Working with parents and young people to identify need
- Delivering a model of support for parents of older children and teenagers
- Empowering parents to support each other
- Developing ways of providing support across the wider community in particular targeting parents form minority ethnic communities
- Offering a targeted service to fathers
- Bringing young people and parents together to improve relationships
- Monitoring and evaluating the service
- Produce a replication manual and disseminating findings
The service receives referrals from partner organisations working with young people and their families, including Slough Behaviour Support Service, schools, social workers and the YOT. Our aim is to work with 80 families a year.
