Continyou is a community learning charity that provides a range of programmes encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to take an interest in learning. We were established in 2003 from a merger of the Community Education Development Centre and Education Extra.
We are using the Parenting Fund to:
- extend our highly successful 'Share' parental involvement project in Leeds
- deploy the new 'Healthy Share' materials
- develop a co-ordinated approach to family learning in the city.
The project will target:
- refugees and asylum seeker families
- black and minority ethnic families
- foster carers
- fathers (including dads in prison).
Aims:
- Promote and embed parental involvement in schools, prison and with foster carers
- Encourage dads to take part in share sessions, including dads in prison
- Encourage parents/carers to take an active interest in the health and wellbeing of their children
- Enable parents/carers to gain support for their accreditation
- Develop a co-ordinated approach to family learning in Leeds
- Extend the Share project at foundation stage, KS1, 2 and 3
- Strengthen the parenting support service infrastructure in Leeds.
Support networks will be created that include: learning mentors, schools, adult education, foster carers, social services department, the prison service, the Open College Network, health professionals, City Learning Centres and Museums. They will be used for sharing best practice.
At the end of the project, a programme for disseminating and celebrating its work will take place. It will include: displays in schools and other settings, Share newsletters, Share website, Share conference, Share LEA network meetings, national conferences and promotion of the project via the extended schools network.
