As part of a strategy to reduce teenage pregnancies and delay onset of second pregnancies for teenage parents, we will improve the quality and quantity of support to black and minority ethnic parents and their children in Manchester and Liverpool.
We will train organisations to deliver the Strengthening Families, Strengthening Communities parent programme and the accompanying START programme for children and young people. This will involve:
- Training at least 20 individuals from 10 organisations to deliver SFSC to parents;
- Training at least 14 individuals from seven organisations to deliver the START programme to children and young people.
We will support the implementation of the highest standards (including the National Occupational Standards) in delivery of SFSC programmes. This will involve:
- Providing expert advice and information in the implementation of SFSC, including additional training in co-facilitation and groupwork;
- Providing intensive support and supervision to at least 35 voluntary organisations, including implementing the quality assurance system;
- Providing financial and practical support to organisations to pump prime the delivery of at least 15 SFSC programmes and seven START programmes; and
- Developing peer support groups in North West (Manchester and Liverpool).
Finally, we will set up dissemination events to encourage local service planners, commissioners and providers to incorporate our approach in mainstream services encourage our approach to be taken up by mainstream services.
